Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our browser-based audio converter, security architecture, bitrate settings, and audio decoding specifications.
Ready to convert your WAV files?
Free, instant, and private audio transcoding directly on your machine.
How does the in-browser conversion work?
Our converter leverages modern HTML5 File APIs and Web Workers. When you pick a file, your browser reads the binary audio data, decodes the uncompressed PCM samples using a dedicated WAV parser, and feeds the PCM samples into an in-browser LAME MP3 encoding engine running in an isolated background thread. Once encoded, the MP3 bytes are packaged into a local Blob URL for immediate download. Zero data is uploaded to remote servers.
Are my audio recordings confidential and secure?
Absolutely. Because all processing occurs 100% on your local device CPU inside your browser sandbox, your audio files never leave your computer or phone. We do not operate an audio conversion server, we do not store files, and we cannot listen to or inspect your audio.
What is the maximum file size and file limit?
You can convert files up to 100 MB per file, and up to 10 files per batch. This allows generous headroom for hour-long uncompressed WAV recordings.
What bit depths and sample rates are supported?
Our engine supports 8-bit unsigned PCM, 16-bit signed integer PCM, 24-bit studio integer PCM, and 32-bit IEEE float PCM WAV files. Supported sample rates include all standard rates (8 kHz, 11.025 kHz, 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz). Files with higher or non-standard sample rates (e.g. 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz, 192 kHz) are smoothly resampled via high-quality linear interpolation to ensure flawless LAME encoder compatibility.
Can I downmix multi-channel audio?
Yes, mono (1-channel) and stereo (2-channel) WAV files are encoded natively into mono or stereo MP3s. Multi-channel audio (such as 5.1 surround WAV) is automatically and safely downmixed into high-fidelity stereo MP3 output.
Why should I choose 192 kbps as the default bitrate?
192 kbps represents the optimal balance between acoustic clarity and file compression. It produces an 86% file size reduction compared to uncompressed 16-bit WAV while maintaining full-frequency fidelity that sounds virtually indistinguishable from CD audio on everyday headphones and car stereos.
Can I use this converter offline?
Yes! Because the HTML, scripts, and encoder libraries are cached in your browser upon initial load, you can disconnect from the internet or go into airplane mode and continue converting audio files.
Do I need to create an account or provide payment information?
No. The converter is 100% free with no login, no registration, no subscription fees, and no usage caps.
